The Farmall 400 is a 2WD row-crop tractor manufactured by Farmall (a part of International Harvester) in Rock Island, Illinois, USA from 1954 to 1956. The Farmall 400 is equipped with one of two engines: a 4.3 L (264.0 cu·in) four-cylinder gasoline/LP-gas engine or a 4.3 L (264.0 cu·in) four-cylinder diesel engine and a partial power shift transmission with 10 forward and 2 reverse gears and dry disc clutch.
The tractor could be equipped with the following engines:
- International Harvester C264. It is a 4.3 L, 4,326 cm2, (264.0 cu·in) four-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline/LP-gas engine with 102.0 mm (4.02 in) of the cylinder bore and 133.0 mm (5.24 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 6.3:1 for gasoline version or 8.33:1 for LP-gas version.
- International Harvester. It is a 4.3 L, 4,326 cm2, (264.0 cu·in) four-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine. The cylinder bore is 102.0 mm (4.02 in) and the piston stroke is 133.0 mm (5.24 in). The compression ratio rating is 16.5:1.
The Farmall 400 is equipped with manual or power (option) steering, manual disc brakes, open operator station, and 81.4 liters (21.5 US gal.; 17.9 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
