International Harvester 856The International Harvester 856 is a 2WD utility tractor manufactured by International Harvester from 1967 to 1971.

The International Harvester 856 is equipped with one of two engines: a 6.7 L (407.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine or a 4.9 L (301.0 cu·in) six-cylinder gasoline/LP-gas engine and sliding gear transmission with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears.

The tractor could be equipped with the following engines:

  • International Harvester D-407. It is a 6.7 L, 6,670 cm2, (407.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine with 110.0 mm (4.33 in) of the cylinder bore and 117.0 mm (4.61 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 17.0:1. This engine produced 96.3 PS (70.8 kW; 95.0 HP) at 2,400 rpm of PTO output power.
  • International Harvester C-301. It is a 4.9 L, 4,932 cm2, (301.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline/LP-gas engine. The cylinder bore is 97.0 mm (3.82 in) and the piston stroke is 112.0 mm (4.41 in). The compression ratio rating is 7.7:1 for gasoline version or 8.8:1 for LP-gas version. This engine produced 96.3 PS (70.8 kW; 95.0 HP) at 2,400 rpm of PTO output power.

The IH 856 is equipped with power steering, differential hydraulic dry disc brakes, an open operator station, and 159.0 liters (42 US gal.; 35 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
