The Farmall 756 is equipped with one of two engines: a 5.1 L (310.0 cu·in) six-cylinder diesel engine or a 4.8 L (291.0 cu·in) six-cylinder gasoline/LP-gas engine and one of two transmissions: a gear type transmission with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears and dry disc clutch or a torque amplifier transmission with 16 forward and 8 reverse gears.

The tractor could be equipped with the following engines:

  • International Harvester D310. It is a 5.1 L, 5,080 cm2, (310.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine with 98.0 mm (3.86 in) of the cylinder bore and 111.0 mm (4.37 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 16.0:1.
  • International Harvester C-291. It is a 4.8 L, 4,768 cm2, (291.0 cu·in) six-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline/LP-gas engine. The cylinder bore is 95.0 mm (3.74 in) and the piston stroke is 112.0 mm (4.41 in). The compression ratio rating is 7.6:1.

The Farmall 756 is equipped with hydrostatic power steering, independent hydraulic disc brakes, open operator station or cab (optional) and 125.0 liters (33 US gal.; 27.5 Imp. gal) fuel tank for gasoline or diesel fuel and 147.6 liters (39.0 US gal, 32.5 Imp. gal) for LP-gas.
