The John Deere 4630 is a 2WD or 4WD row-crop tractor from the Generation II series. This tractor was manufactured by John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, USA from 1973 to 1977.
The John Deere 4630 row-crop tractor used the John Deere engine. It is a 6.6 L, 6,620 cm2, (404 cu·in) six-cylinder aftercooled turbocharged diesel engine with 108.0 mm (4.25 in) of the cylinder bore and 120.0 mm (4.72 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 15.1:1. The John Deere motor used a direct injection fuel system, a dry-type air cleaner with the secondary element, ether injection pre-heating system, full pressure, full flow lubrication system with bypass and micronic filter element; pressure cooling system with centrifugal pump and thermostatic heat control; Delco-Remy electric starter. This engine produced 166 PS (122 KW; 164 HP) of maximum output power.
The John Deere 4630 is equipped with full-power hydrostatic power steering, full-power wet disc differential brakes, Sound-Gard cab with air-conditioning and 246 liters (65 US gal.; 54.1 Imp. gal) fuel tank. The JD 4430 was available with John Deere 158 loader.
The JD 4630 tractor used one of three transmissions:
- John Deere Syncro-Range: partially synchronized transmission and Perma-Clutch with triple wet disc (8 forward and 2 reverse gears)
- John Deere Quad-Range: partial power shift transmission and Perma-Clutch with triple wet disc (16 forward and 6 reverse gears)
- John Deere Power Shift: full power shift transmission with wet disc clutch (8 forward and 2 reverse gears)
