The JD 6100D utility tractor used the John Deere 4045T PowerTech engine. It is a 4.5 L, 4,523 cm2, (276.0 cu·in) four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 107.0 mm (4.21 in) of the cylinder bore and 127.0 mm (5 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 17.0:1. This engine produced 100.2 PS (73.7 kW; 98.8 HP) at 2,100 rpm of output power and 371.5 N·m (37.9 kg·m, 273.8 ft·lb) at 1,400 rpm of torque.
