The John Deere GT262 is a lawn and garden tractor from the John Deere GT-series. The John Deere GT262 garden tractor was produced at the John Deere Horicon Works plant (Horicon, Wisconsin, USA) from 1992 to 1998.
The John Deere GT262 lawn tractor used an air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke Kawasaki FC540V gasoline engine with vertical PTO shaft. The FC540V engine has an OHV (overhead valve) design, cast-iron cylinder liner, reciprocating balancer, float type carburetor with fixed main jet, flywheel magneto transistor type ignition system, mechanical governor.
An 89.0 mm (3.5 in) cylinder bore and 86.0 mm (3.39 in) piston stroke give the motor a total of 535 cc (32.65 cu-in) of displacement. Compression ratio rating is 8.3:1. The Kawasaki FC540V motor produced 17.0 HP (12.7 kW) at 3,600 rpm of horsepower and 36.7 Nm (3.74 kg·m; 27.08 ft·lb) at 2,400 rpm of torque.
The John Deere GT262 is equipped with Tuff Torq gear type transmission with six forward and one rear gear, internal wet disc brakes, and manual sector-and-pinion steering. This tractor used open operator station and 10.4 L (2.75 gallons) fuel tank.
