The Massey Ferguson 65 is equipped with one of three engines: a 2.9 L (176.0 cu·in) four-cylinder gasoline/LP-gas engine, a 3.3 L (203.0 cu·in) four-cylinder diesel engine or a 3.1 L (192.0 cu·in) four-cylinder diesel engine and one of two transmissions: a gear type with dry disc clutch transmission with 6 forward and 2 reverse gears or a two-range power shift with dry disc clutch transmission with 12 forward and 4 reverse gears. This tractor was available in utility (model code S) and high-clearance (C) chassis.

  • Continential (available only in US). It is a 2.9 L, 2,884 cm2, (176.0 cu·in) four-cylinder natural aspirated gasoline/LP-gas engine with 91.0 mm (3.58 in) of the cylinder bore and 111.0 mm (4.37 in) of the piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 7.1:1 ofr gasoline version or 8.0:1 for LP-gas version.
  • Perkins 4A.203. It is a 3.3 L, 3,327 cm2, (203.0 cu·in) four-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine. The cylinder bore is 91.0 mm (3.58 in) and the piston stroke is 127.0 mm (5.0 in). The compression ratio rating is 17.4:1.
  • Perkins 4A.192. It is a 3.1 L, 3,146 cm2, (192.0 cu·in) four-cylinder natural aspirated diesel engine. The cylinder bore is 89.0 mm (3.50 in) and the piston stroke is 127.0 mm (5.0 in). The compression ratio rating is 16.5:1.

The MF 65 is equipped with manual or power (option) steering, differential mechanical internal expanding disc brakes, open operator station, and 50.0 liters (13.2 US gal.; 11 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
