This tractor was manufactured by Cub Cadet (a part of International Harvester) in Louisville, Kentucky, USA from 1967 to 1969. The Cub Cadet 72 is equipped with a 0.3 L (16.2 cu·in) single-cylinder gasoline engine and one of two transmissions: a gear type transmission with 3 forward and 1 reverse gears and dry disc clutch or a creeper transmission with 6 forward and 2 reverse gears.

The Cub Cadet 72 garden tractor used the Kohler K161 engine.
